Your top holiday destinations – Best of Family Travel awards

Italy, Fiji, Hawaii and Singapore have been named the top international destinations for families in a survey of 120,000 Family Travel readers. 

The annual Best of Family Travel Awards (BOFTAS) had more than 120,000 unique votes in 70 categories covering everything to do with Family Travel.

We asked Australian Families for their top international and domestic holiday locations, the best water parks, the best cruise lines, the best places for families with babies, the best airlines and even the best airport for transit with kids. The results show Australian families are diverse and keen travellers. 

Family Travel is published by Bound Round Media which also includes the over 50s brand MyDiscoveries and Travel with Special Needs. 

“The peoples choice award winners for 2018 reflect the changing nature of Australian families,” Bound Round CEO Janeece Keller says. 

“We are really pleased to see destinations and accommodation for larger families and families with special needs in the results.”

Unsurprisingly Fiji was a hot favourite with Aussie families. Family Travel readers named Fiji the best destination for babies and toddlers as well as for families with primary school-aged kids. 

Once the kids reach tween and teenage years, families then say they love Hawaii. 

“It’s always great to see know favourite such as Fiji and Bali on the list plus some unique destinations that give adventurous families a chance to escape, be adventurous and immerse themselves in another culture,” Janeece says.  

Italy was named the top destination for families in Europe and Scandinavia. Japan took the gong for the best cultural immersion and New Zealand scored a nod for the best adventure destination. 

Queensland was the big winner domestically. The sunshine state took out close to half of the domestic category awards including Best City for A Long Weekend, Best Family Attraction, Best Holiday Park and Best Family Hotel.
