If the Fairmont wasn’t in such a beautiful place, we wouldn’t have left the hotel.
Nestled in the beautiful town of Leura – unarguably the most charming of the Blue Mountains villages – is the Fairmont Resort & Spa.
Traditional, but stylish. Family friendly, but luxurious. Ditch the Airbnb: we’ve found a hotel that ticks all the right boxes.
Sitting on the edge of the Jamison Valley and boasting spectacular views, this inclusive family hotel is the premiere of luxury resorts.
First Impressions
From the moment you enter the Fairmont, you’re greeted with elegance. The sweeping foyer boasts panoramic views of the Blue Mountains, and you’ll be sure to receive a warm welcome from the staff.
You’ll also notice a giant fish tank in the lobby. It’s a colourful addition to the room, and a great distraction for the little ones while you’re checking in.
The Rooms
Check-in is smooth, and the suites are spacious and clean. Our room was fitted with a TV, ensuite, two king beds with soft sheets and sweeping garden views. The rooms opposite us had some pretty spectacular views of the Jamison Valley.
The hotel has 224 charming boutique style rooms and suites. Families can book Family Suites with two interconnecting bedrooms: a king bedroom with ensuite, and a room with two singles for the kids.
The electronic in-room service is easy to use, so the kids don’t have to teach you how it works. Access menus, information and entertainment all with ease on the TV. The mini bar is set up with plenty of snacks and beverages, should you need.
Dining
The hotel has a spectacular seven restaurants and bars to choose from, including local fusion cuisine, high tea and the Golf Club Bistro. The gourmet room service menu goes down just as well and arrives without haste.
Of course, everyone loves a buffet. But you haven’t truly tried a buffet until you’ve set foot inside Jamison’s.
A Fairmont breakfast is spectacular. Jamison’s has a large array of food bars; fruits, cereals, pastries and hot food were available – and lots of it. There’s also fresh tea and coffee, and you can even make your own juice.
We were very impressed with the smashed avocado and kale station.
The dining area boasts floor to ceiling glass windows, so you can soak up the morning views with a coffee in hand.
The Grounds
Upon entry, a driveway of rolling greens welcomes you in. The gardens have a fully equipped golfing greens and a golf club. The Fairmont has a kids train that rolls around the grounds on weekends. Once it’s parked, the little ones can have a go on the mini Ferris Wheel.
Further inside, you’ll find a boutique shop with clothes and souvenirs. Next door is a pool room, and a traditional English library. A great excuse to cuddle up with a book after a day of walking.
You’ll also find a mini-museum display, and a giant model train set that gets started with the push of a button. This one proved good fun for all ages.
The resort has a giant indoor and outdoor pool area. Enjoy the spa, sauna, and heated indoor pool, or head outside for more options. You can grab floating devices and pool noodles for splashing about.
For Kids
As if there wasn’t already enough for the little ones, the Fairmont has six giant rooms that makeup KidZone. The plastic paradise has rooms for kids of every age, and they are labelled accordingly.
KidZone has several ball pits, climbing frames, a bowling alley, neon carousel, play parks and a mirror maze.
Older kids will love the arcade rooms, complete with characters from Batman, Jurassic Park, Captain Underpants and Despicable Me.
Ubika Day Spa
Any Fairmont experience must be christened with a trip to the Ubika Day Spa. Drop the little ones at the KidsZone and treat yourself to a luxury facial, scrub and massage.
I can only speak well of the Fairmont’s brand new day spa. The pampering begins from the moment you step through the door, and it is remembered long after.
