As of September 1st 2018, the prestigious hotel chain will stop offering single-use plastic straws and drink picks to their guests, due to their harmful environmental impact. They are the first hotel brand to do so.

“Eliminating plastic straws and drink picks builds on the environmental sustainability programs we have in place,” said Frank Lavey, the Senior Vice President of Hyatt’s global operations. “This is a meaningful step, and our commitment doesn’t stop [here]. We will continue exploring viable alternatives everywhere we can.”

The announcement echoes the sentiment of other corporations such as Coles and Woolworths, who have started phasing out plastic bags.

It is part of Hyatt’s broader Environmental Sustainability Vision, which kicked off in 2014. The hotels are also fighting to reduce their food waste, source materials and produce ethically and minimise water and energy use.

Make your family’s luxury hotel stay an eco-friendly one by following suit and making conscious choices about using plastics.
