Mudgee hosts family festival dedicated to sausages

A sizzling new festival has arrived in Mudgee, NSW. The first ever Festival of Snags is taking place on Saturday November 30th at Mudgee Showground. It is not every day you get to celebrate an Aussie staple like the humble sausage. So mark your calendars for this town-sized weekend barbie. Missing out would be the wurst!

Mudgee Showground will transform for this free event. Snag tossing, snagiator battles, and inflatable snag races will unfold in the dedicated Game of Snags arena. The Chipolatas Kid Zone will feature a petting zoo, face painting station and a huge inflatable obstacle course.

Sausages aren’t the only bangers on the menu. Enjoy great live music and community performances throughout the day. Special guests Furnace and the Fundamentals are sure to amp up the party atmosphere.

Naturally, the best of Mudgee’s local snags will be available, including offerings from Byron Place Butchery, award-winning Gulgong Butchery, Mudgee Lamb and more. A People’s Choice Award will be given to a crowd-pleasing snag on the day. Be brave and try the unusual taste combos such as vegemite and cheese! Of course, if your family is meat-free, scrumptious veggie options are on offer for you to scope out. Regardless of your choice, Milnes of Mudgee will run a special condiments station to jazz up your sausage sanger.

Tastebuds still tingling? The Taste Mudgee food hall will be brimming with local wines and gourmet produce. You can also expect food trucks, tasting stations, and cooking demonstrations by The Little Cooking School.

Finally, to finish it all off, sit back and watch a banging fireworks display.

The Festival of Snags came about thanks to Wotif’s Festival of Wot competition, urging Aussie towns to campaign for a new local festival. Mudgee was the proud winner.
