Think museums are boring? Then why is Instagram going crazy over this one? If search the hashtag: #sugarrepublic, you’ll get a sweet taste of what this pop-up exhibit is all about.

On the sixth floor of both Sydney and Melbourne Myer stores, a psychedelic world of Instagram gold awaits. Sugar Republic is a celebration of all things sweet, and it’s not just for kids.

Sugar Republic is back for its second year and it’s bigger and sweeter than ever. After launching in June 2018, the event sold out in Melbourne every day for eight weeks straight. This year, Myer has jumped on board and taken Sugar Republic to all new heights (in more ways than one).

The highlight of the Melbourne pop-up has got to be the giant ball pit. It goes right up to the 6th storey windows with an awesome view over the CBD. Even Mums and Dads won’t be able to resist jumping in.

Julie Jones from Travel with Special Needs and Have Wheelchair Will Travel, stopped by the Sydney pop-up with her two kids last week.

“It’s lovely to find all the Aussie favourites like Whizz Fizz, Freckles, Hubba Bubba”, says Julie. “Staff walk around with sweet trays offering delicious treats and there’s an ice cream tasting.”

Okay, now we’re convinced. With sponsors such as Hubba Bubba, Wizz Fizz, Starburst and Arnotts, you’re in for a real treat.

Families can check out 12 different themed spaces. You can jump out of a giant birthday cake, snap photos in the rainbow rooms and set off your own confetti cannon.

Instagram-loving teens will go nuts over this but kids of all ages are welcome. Each session lasts an hour. Kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and children under two get in free.

The pop-up is mostly wheelchair-friendly, however, some features of the exhibit are not accessible, including the ball pit.
