Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge details revealed

Guests will be able to take control of the Millennium Falcon and face off with Kylo Ren at the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Disney Parks chairman Bob Chapek gave fans a sneak peak inside two of the attractions set for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019.

The immersive theme-land will open at Disneyland California in the US summer 2019, and then at Walt Disney World Florida in the US autumn.

Speaking at the D23 Expo, Chapek announced that guests will be able to take the controls in one of three unique and critical roles aboard Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run. On Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Disney guests will join an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance, including a face-off with Kylo Ren.

The theme parks will feature exclusive original theme music created by Academy Award-winning composer John Williams. The all-new music was recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.

Chapek also provided a sneak peek at the groundbreaking Star Wars resort coming to Walt Disney World Resort. This multi-day, fully immersive adventure will take guests aboard a luxury starship with all the features expected of a first-class hotel, including dining, recreation, and accommodations, all authentic to the Star Wars universe.

Mickey Mouse turns 90 in 2019.  To celebrate Disney will open a brand new ride at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway uses breakthrough technology to transform a two-dimensional cartoon in the an amazing real-world experience. The ride will open in the US autumn and will feature and new original story and theme song.

At Disneyland in California guests can expect an all-new Mickey Mouse experience. Get ready to get your ears on with Micky’s Mic Magic. This show will light up Disneyland with all new music, projections and laser that set the scene for an epic dance party that will take over almost the whole park. 

Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida is undergoing a huge transformation. It started with the introduction of Pandora: the World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom in 2017. This year saw the creation of Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios. After Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Walt Disney World opens in 2019, it will be Epcot’s turn. 

“We are currently in the midst of one of the most extraordinary periods of expansion in our history,” Chapek said. “We are always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible as we deliver world-class experiences and attractions, new hotels and entertainment, itineraries and destinations for our guests.”

Epcot stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. And Disney plans to honour the park’s original vision by making it more timeless, more relevant, more family and more Disney. 

At World Showcase, Chapek revealed that the Ratatouille experience coming to the France pavilion will be called Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Guests will also enjoy a brand new “Beauty and the Beast” sing-along, created by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live action “Beauty and the Beast” films. There will also be an update to the O Canada! 360-degree show.

And let’s not forget the Guardians of the Galaxy – coming to Epcot in the future. Or should we say from the future? This rollercoaster ride is planned to be the longest indoor rollercoaster in the world.
