We like a party just as much as the next person. But when there are koalas involved? We’re there faster than you can say ‘joey!’
The Koala Karnival at Queensland’s Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has just kicked off and will run until the 7th October. The celebrations are in honour of Save the Koala Month and raise awareness about the conservation work undertaken at the sanctuary.

Grab your koala map on entry and collect all the stickers as you wander the park. Check in to keeper talks at 10am and 2pm daily. Don’t forget to visit young koalas at the Koala Kindy and the teeny joeys in the Koala Nursery.
“Kids will learn all sorts of interesting koala facts at the info hub,” says Sarah Eccleston, the sanctuary’s long-time koala expert. “The Koala keepers will be talking about Koalas in the wild, where they might be found, what they eat, Koala joeys and how long they live.”
Book online for a special deal of adult tickets at kid’s prices. There are no additional entry costs for the Koala Karnival. But you can pay extra for a koala cuddle and photograph.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The sanctuary currently runs sixteen conservation projects, including work to protect koalas, bilbies, Tassie devils and cassowaries. During your visit, you can also pop in to the Wildlife Hospital where sick and injured animals are treated.
