Top 6 family-friendly hotels in California

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]California dreaming? The time is right to book a Californian holiday. But where should you stay? It’s hard to know which are the family-friendly hotels when you are booking from the other side of the world.

We asked Visit California for their top six family-friendly hotels in the state. They told us it was hard to pick. But they have done it. Here’s the list. If you have more to add – let us know on Facebook.

The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa Huntington Beach

This hotel has a giant pool with three water slides. That would be enough to keep plenty of families busy. But that’s not all the Hyatt has. It’s also right on the edge of Huntington Beach, nicknamed “Surf City, USA.”

At the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach you can take taking surfing lessons with local pros, rent bikes and pedal the ocean-hugging boardwalk. As the sun sets, gather around the hotel’s fire pits for cocoa and s’mores.

The family-friendly hotel also features Camp Hyatt, where kids ages 11 and under play games, do crafts, and hit the beach, with a specific theme for each days’ activities. The camp is available for half- or full days, plus evenings on the weekends. You know what that means – dinner, or a spa treatment. On. Your. Own. Heaven.

Top tip: Don’t forget to try your own s’mores’ kit.

Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa

We love the Rancho Las Palmas just for it’s name. But kids will love it because it has the mother of all splash pools. This desert oasis is aptly named called Splashtopia. It’s a two-acre water park smack bang in the middle of this classic Palm Springs resort. Slather on the sunscreen before you head here because the kids will want to stay for hours. Ride the relaxing lazy river, read a book on the sandy beach or scare yourself silliy on the huge water slides. We particularly loved the  jets for water fights.

Rancho knows that families will spend a lot of time here so they have added poolside grills and plenty of lounge chairs for parents to kick back and watch the kids go wild.

If your kids ever do agree to get out of the water, they can check out kid-friendly crafts, games, a junior tennis clinic, “dive-in movies” and video-game arcade.

Parents should consider babysitting hire so they can check out the adults-only Azure Pool, the golf course and luxurious spa.

Hotel Del Sol San Francisco

This hotel makes a great home-base for families visiting San Fran. It’s made the list its cheery and colorful rooms and personal family-friendly service.

Kids get free goodie-filled knapsacks upon check-in at the Hotel Del Sol. Family rooms have separate bedrooms for the kids (thank goodness we hear you say!). The hotel also has baby-proofed rooms and suites with kitchenettes so you can make quick meals and snacks. They even have  in-room bathtub toys and a library of books and DVDs. Continental breakfast is included for all in your room and milk and cookies are served every afternoon. We kid you not. The hotel is situated in San Francisco’s bayfront Marina District, within walking distance of Crissy Field, Fort Mason, and Fisherman’s Wharf.

Loews Coronado Bay Resort

Perched on a tiny peninsula extending into San Diego Bay, the Loews Coronado is a bustling resort perfect for an active family. Once again it’s the pool that the kids will love. It has a wading pool, a designated family pool and hot tub. Bigger kids will love the pool-side ping pong tables. Tempted to take a dip in the peaceful adult-only pool and hot tub? No worries — just sign the kids up for the resort’s half- or full-day kids’ club, with activities such as sandcastle building, scavenger hunts, and magic tricks. Older kids can hit the teen lounge which has movies and Play Station games.

If you can drag them way from the hotel, you’ll find loads to do in San Diego. The resort has kayaks, standup paddleboards, sailboats, and personal watercraft to rent and beautiful Silver Strand Beach is within walking distance.

Juniper Springs Resort

Californian holidays aren’t just about the beach. Juniper Springs Lodge is your perfect base-camp for your Mammoth family ski adventure. This family-friendly resort has all the comforts of home with ski-in, ski-out convenience. The Eagle base lodge next door delivers all your ski resort needs.  Amenities include Wi-Fi, fitness centers, heated pools, hot tubs, game and media room, and complimentary airport and town shuttle service.
