The world is going crazy for Facebook’s 3D photos. If you plan to test it out this holidays – we’ve got a few tips for you that will make your travel photos pop.
The new Facebook feature turns two-dimensional photos taken with a compatible duel-lense phone into three-dimensional photos. You can scroll, pan or tilt to see the photos in 3D on your Facebook feed.

Compatible cameras the iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X, XS, XS Max. On Andriod try the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Google Pixel 2, 2XL, 3, and 3XL, the OnePlus 5T, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, the MotoX4 and the Honor 7X.
According to Facebook’s news blog, the camera on these phones records the distance between the subject in the foreground and the background when in portrait mode. Facebook uses that information to bring the scenes to life with depth and movement.
All you need to do is post the portrait mode photos to Facebook.

To get the best results, the subject of your photo should be about one metre away. You should look to capture scenes with multiple layers of depth, including something in the foreground and something in the background. “Like a shot of your family standing in a field of flowers,” Facebook says.
To make travel photos pop you are going to want to ensure the subject of the photo has contrasting colours to the scene around them.
“Someone wearing a blue shirt standing in front of a blue wall won’t pop as much as someone wearing a different colour”.
Look for materials that have some texture to them, have solid edges and aren’t too shiny such as a painted wall. Avoid transparent objects such as plastic or glass – they sometimes aren’t captured accurately by the depth sensors.
