Walk alongside dinosaurs in the Blue Mountains

Is Jurassic Park your favourite movie? If so, go and visit Dinosaur Valley Scenic World today. It’s open until January 28.

A stones throw from Katoomba, this Scenic World event is the first of its kind in the Blue Mountains.

Entry to the Dinosaur Valley is included in tickets to Scenic World. A family pass is $99, which can cover up to five kids. Adult tickets are $39, kids (under 14) are $21. The pass also gives you unlimited travel on the Skyway, Cableway, Walkway and terrifying Scenic Railway. The railway is the steepest in the world.

The 470 million-year-old Blue Mountains are the perfect setting for a prehistoric rainforest event. These mountains contain the endangered Wollemi Pine, nicknamed the “Dinosaur Tree”.

“Dinosaurs have continued to capture our imaginations for centuries and we hope to tap into that curiosity in creative ways that leave a lasting impact on our guests,” Scenic World’s Events Manager Alana Silk says.

Children will love the daily interactive Meet and Roar shows. They can shake hands with a triceratops, learn about the dinosaurs and understand why they died out. You can also enjoy free events, complimentary trail guides and bring a Junior Ranger pack home.

The pack is the perfect compliment to a Jurassic Park DVD and a large bowl of popcorn.

At the Meet and Roar events, kids are joined by friendly Dinosaur Rangers who will tell them all about how dinosaurs lived, hunted and survived.

The trip is a great excuse to have a break from phones and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of their surrounds.

“It invites visitors to disconnect from the devices and explore the natural beauty of the Blue Mountains while learning more about our region’s history and incredible flora and fauna,” Silk says.

Scenic World caters to people with special needs, including those who use a wheelchair, with options in place, though they advise you to ring up first.

The Blue Mountains are right on Sydney’s doorstep with a world-class attraction which kids will love. Go and get your claws into it.
