BEST FOR FAMILIES

DESTINATION

Surrounded by mountains, northern Thailand holds an almost mystical appeal. In Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second largest city, you’ll find heaps to see and do. The city is home to more than 300 fascinating temples and eye-opening traditional practices, plus the fascinating Walking Street Markets, where teens can stock up on trinkets and cheap clothes.  It is also an excellent base for visiting the mountains and for exploring neighbouring forests, rice fields and national parks for bamboo rafting, white-water rafting and trekking. Not too far from Chiang Mai is Chiang Rai, a culturally diverse region that is home to Thailand’s minority Hill Tribes. Here you’ll find a more traditional Thailand, and visiting families can even enjoy a homestay with a hill tribe family for the ultimate in cultural immersion.

TOUR

The 8 Day Thailand for teens tour is great for families. This gives teens a chance to socialise with others their own age and make new friends, while also spending lots of holiday time with the entire family. Parents can relax as the tour guide takes the wheel and handles all the complicated organisational parts of your family holiday. Meaning you can focus on exploring the sights and teach the kids about the different lives and cultures through travel. Group touring makes for a smooth and hassle-free journey as you take kids to see Thailand’s capital Bangkok or beautiful Chiang Mai.

Bangkok

Saturday. Welcome to Bangkok and the start of your family holiday! Once you have checked into your hotel the rest of the day is free until 6pm when you meet your guide for a welcome meeting. After the meeting, you’ll head to a popular local restaurant to sample some tasty Thai cuisine for dinner.

Bangkok City Tour

Straddling the Chao Phraya River, Thailand’s bustling capital city is both chaotic and captivating, and today you will take in some of its most famous sites on a guided tour. The first stop is at the 24-hour flower market where you get to view stunning orchids and roses on sale to the local restaurants and florists. Then you visit the spiritual and religious heart of the city – the striking Grand Palace. Topped by golden stupas, the complex has been the site of royal coronations and is home to the legendary Emerald Buddha. From the Grand Palace, you take an exhilarating ride on a tuk-tuk to Wat Pho, home of the reclining Buddha.

After a break for lunch, you board a longtail boat and set off on an exploration of the labyrinth of klongs (canals) that criss-cross the city. On your journey, you’ll glide by stilted houses and gleaming temples whilst old men fish and children play about on the water’s edge. your boat drops us off within walking distance of Khao San Road, popular with backpackers and hippies. The evening is free for you to explore the many bars, restaurants, market stalls and tailors that line this vibrant road.

You will then board a train for a two-hour journey that crosses the bridge before following the tracks to Nam Tok. Disembarking the train you will take a short drive to ‘Hellfire Pass’, where the POWs were forced to dig through the mountain often using only their bare hands.

Later you will board a longtail boat which will take us to your accommodation for the night, a beautiful floating jungle raft. Surrounded by a hundred softly glowing lanterns, the sound of the tropical forest and cool flowing water you will enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening on the deck.

All that remains are the stone and brick temples from the era. Today you explore Ayuthaya’s famous ruins, visiting the magnificent stupas at Wat Phri Sanphet and iconic Wat Mahatat where the head of a damaged Buddha statue has slowly been embraced and lifted by a nearby tree. This is one of Thailand’s most religiously significant places. This evening you head to the station to board your sleeper train to Chiang Mai (2nd class A/C sleeper cabins).
