Overview

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. Although in use for the many official events and receptions held by The Queen, the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every summer. The Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace is a traditional, colourful spectacle, full of British pageantry. The ceremony lasts about 45 minutes and usually takes place daily at 11:30 from April until the end of July and on alternate days for the rest of the year (weather permitting).

Good to knows

  • The Changing of the Guard schedule is set by the British Army and is subject to change. We recommend you to check the Army website before a visit.
  • The New Guard, who during the course of the ceremony become The Queen’s Guard, march to Buckingham Palace from Wellington Barracks.
